Ukrainian drones strike Ozon warehouse and Novokuybyshevsk refinery in Samara region
Ukrainian long-range drones hit an Ozon logistics hub and an oil refinery in Russia's Samara region, causing fires and injuries while forcing the evacuation of over 500 warehouse workers.
Overnight drone strike on Ozon logistics hub in Samara
Ukrainian long-range drones struck a logistics facility operated by e-commerce company Ozon in Russia's Samara region overnight. The strike triggered a large fire across the warehouse, forcing company management to evacuate more than 500 employees within a matter of minutes. Russian state news agencies Tass and Interfax reported casualties among personnel inside the facility, while regional authorities confirmed that several workers sustained injuries. Ozon announced an indefinite suspension of all logistics operations at the Samara warehouse, stating that cargo processing and package deliveries would be redistributed to other regional facilities. Emergency services deployed firefighting teams to control the flames inside the warehouse structure and provide medical assistance to affected workers.
Refinery hit in Novokuybyshevsk and governor response
The strike in the Samara region formed part of a coordinated long-range drone operation against infrastructure located roughly 1,000 kilometres from the front line. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Telegram that Ukrainian forces targeted both the Ozon logistics complex and an oil refinery in the nearby city of Novokuybyshevsk. Witnesses reported dense plumes of smoke rising from the Novokuybyshevsk refinery installations following the impacts. Samara regional governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev stated that regional air defence units and mobile interceptor teams engaged incoming drones throughout the night, claiming that several dozen uncrewed aerial vehicles were brought down and neutralised. Fedorishchev confirmed direct damage to an industrial facility as well as the impact on the Ozon warehouse.
Tonight, our armed forces and mobile air defence teams repelled a massive drone attack on our region. Several dozen enemy drones were shot down and neutralised. An industrial facility suffered damage. An impact was also recorded on the Ozon logistics complex. At the moment there are several injured. Everyone is receiving medical assistance.

Expansion of Ukrainian strikes against Russian e-commerce
The attack on the Samara facility represents the first time Ukrainian drones have targeted Ozon, Russia's second-largest e-commerce retailer behind market leader Wildberries. Ukrainian forces previously concentrated long-range strikes against Wildberries distribution centres, launching regular raids against that company's logistics hubs beginning on 18 July 2026. While e-commerce warehouses constitute civilian infrastructure, Ukrainian authorities state that both platforms actively support the Russian war effort. Targeting these corporate logistics networks also forms part of Kyiv's broader economic strategy to disrupt Russian domestic supply chains, corporate delivery systems, and commercial trade networks across the country.
Reciprocal attacks on Kryvyi Rih, Kyiv, and Zaporizhzhia
The strikes against industrial and logistics targets in Samara coincided with deadly Russian aerial bombardments across Ukrainian population centres. Ukrainian emergency and civil protection authorities reported that a Russian drone strike on Friday, 21 August 2026, struck a commercial shopping centre in Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky. The shopping centre attack killed at least 16 people, injured 130 others, and left 9 people missing, including 2 children. Russian forces also launched drone and missile attacks against Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia overnight into 22 August 2026, killing two people. In Kyiv, falling debris and drone impacts ignited a fire at a commercial warehouse in the city's Darnytskyi district.
