Dolomiti Superski to refund skiers €30 million after Antitrust settlement over skipass pricing

Italy's competition authority, the Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato (Antitrust), has closed an investigation into the Federconsorzio Dolomiti Superski and 12 associated valley consortia that began in July 2025. The probe examined two aspects of the consortium's statute: whether the Federconsorzio coordinated the pricing of valley skipasses among its member consortia, and whether it restricted those consortia from selling their own skipasses through third parties. The Antitrust considered these rules could violate Article 2 of Italy's law no. 287/1990 and Article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU). To close the proceeding without fines or admission of wrongdoing, the consortia committed to statutory changes removing any future coordination on price and distribution policies for valley skipasses, alongside a compensation package for skiers.

€30 million compensation package

The settlement includes a €30 million compensation fund for consumers who purchased valley skipasses (daily or multi-day, valid for one to 31 consecutive days in a single ski area) during the 2022/2023, 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 winter seasons. The package is split into two streams: €18 million for vouchers and €12 million for cash refunds. Eligible skiers can choose between a direct cash refund equal to 20% of their documented spending, or a voucher worth 30% of their spending, usable for future valley skipass purchases. Season passes and the multi-area Dolomiti Superski super-skipass are excluded from the scheme. The 12 affected ski areas span Cortina d'Ampezzo, San Vito di Cadore, Auronzo/Misurina, Plan de Corones-Kronplatz, Alta Badia, Val Gardena-Alpe di Siusi, Val di Fassa e Carezza, Alpe Lusia-San Pellegrino, Civetta, Arabba-Marmolada, 3 Zinnen, Val di Fiemme-Obereggen, San Martino di Castrozza e Passo Rolle, and Rio Pusteria-Bressanone.

How to claim

From 15 October 2026, eligible skiers can submit claims through a dedicated online portal that Dolomiti Superski will launch in the coming weeks. The Federconsorzio will verify each request, and users are advised to retain documentation proving their skipass purchases. Priority goes to verified requests on a first-come, first-served basis until fund exhaustion. Information on operational details and timelines will be published through official channels before the application window opens. Federconsorzio president Andy Varallo said implementation will follow criteria of transparency and impartiality, with updates for users and consumer associations.

Consumer groups divided

Consumer associations offered mixed verdicts. Assoutenti, a formal participant in the proceeding, rejected the plan, calling them "rimborsi a ostacoli" and saying consumers were "beffati" because the voucher option pushes them toward new purchases and both options carry caps that risk leaving some claimants unpaid. Assoutenti also noted the daily Dolomiti Superski skipass rose 28.4% from 2021 to 2026. Consumerismo No Profit, also a participant, gave a positive judgment but demanded that results be measured through "metodi certi e indipendenti".

Additional commitments

Beyond the €30 million compensation fund, the consortia committed to maintaining promotions and discounts on the Dolomiti Superski super-skipass for the next five winter seasons, valued at approximately €20 million. This brings the total value of commitments to roughly €50 million. The consortia will also amend their statutes to eliminate all coordination on valley skipass pricing and distribution.
