Dolly Parton estate seeks restraining order against nephew Bryan Seaver over alleged extortion

Danny Nozell, the longtime manager of Dolly Parton, filed a petition for a temporary restraining order against her nephew Bryan Seaver in the Davidson County Chancery Court in Nashville, Tennessee. The legal action was submitted on behalf of She's Alive LLC, the entity responsible for administering and safeguarding Parton's commercial assets and entertainment empire. The filing asks the court to prohibit Seaver from entering company properties and to bar him from coming within 300 metres of She's Alive employees, attorneys, and business partners. The estate terminated Seaver and his firm, Squadron Augmented Protection Services (SAPS), the prior week after determining that his conduct made his employment untenable. The escalating tension led to the resignation of Parton's trusts and estates attorney as well as several staff members, forcing the management company to hire private security details for employees at their homes.

Allegations of threats and extortion

According to court documents submitted by She's Alive, Seaver initiated an intimidation campaign in the weeks surrounding Parton's death on 25 August 2026 to extract money from the estate. The filings include text messages and emails where Seaver allegedly threatened commercial partners connected to the Dollywood theme park and vowed to become the hand of vengeance for his entire family. In one message sent on 1 September 2026, Seaver stated that he would launch a podcast aimed at damaging Parton's brand partnerships unless he received payment.

“I'm going to set up a podcast dedicated to ruining Dolly's brand partnerships and telling the violations these people have done on us. It's going to be great. Or f**king pay me.”

The complaint further states that Seaver referenced his background as a private military contractor during the Iraq War, allegedly describing himself in messages as a killer and an international arms dealer involved in warfare.

Seaver responds to the allegations

Seaver, who was selected by Parton to announce her death from cancer in a public video, rejected the claim that he attempted to extort the estate. Speaking to TMZ, he asserted that his remarks were taken out of context during private, emotionally fraught conversations with Nozell while both men were grieving.

“I am a career soldier and military contractor and do conduct arms deals for foreign governments. I am a security professional and I am a killer. However, nothing in this lawsuit were threats and most of the comments I stand by. I was talking frankly in a private way with Danny who I thought was my friend and he fancies himself a gangster. A lot of these messages are two guys having rage talk and crying on the phone together while we were grieving.”

Seaver also told The New York Times that he is conducting his own inquiry into how Parton's commercial affairs were administered at the time of her death, denying that he opposes her brand or legacy.

Assets and background of the estate

Parton died at age 80 following a battle with cancer, prompting Donald Trump to order flags flown at half-staff for one week. Her estate, valued at 450 million dollars by Forbes, encompasses music royalties from songs such as "Jolene" and "9 to 5", the Dollywood theme park in Tennessee with roughly four million annual visitors, the Songteller Hotel, and the Life of Many Colors museum scheduled to open in September 2026. Seaver, the son of Parton's sister Cassie Parton, worked as her security chief for more than two decades after taking over the role from his father, Larry Seaver. Parton had written her 1993 song "Romeo" as a cautionary track for Seaver when he was 16 years old.
