Schweinsteiger conducts second-round draw in Dortmund
The draw for the second round of the DFB-Pokal took place on Saturday evening at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. Former German international and ARD television pundit Bastian Schweinsteiger drew the 16 fixtures for the round of 32. In a clean sweep for the top flight, all 18 Bundesliga clubs advanced through the opening round to enter the draw, which had not happened since the 2008–2009 season. The second-round matches will take place across two days on 27 and 28 October 2026. The competition will culminate with the final in Berlin on 29 May 2027.

Four direct Bundesliga clashes set for late October
The draw produced four all-Bundesliga fixtures, featuring several established rivalries across the division. Borussia Dortmund will host northern rivals Werder Bremen in Dortmund. Hamburger SV will play at home against Eintracht Frankfurt in another meeting between traditional first-division opponents. SC Paderborn, recently promoted to the Bundesliga, hosts VfB Stuttgart, the 2025 cup winner and runner-up from last season, denying Stuttgart their hope of securing a home fixture. In the fourth all-top-tier encounter, 1. FC Köln will host Union Berlin.
Bayern Munich meets Magdeburg in rare cup rematch
Defending champion and record 21-time cup winner Bayern Munich was drawn at home against 2. Bundesliga side 1. FC Magdeburg. The match marks only the second DFB-Pokal meeting between the two clubs. During the 2000–2001 campaign, Magdeburg knocked Bayern out of the tournament in a penalty shootout, before Munich recovered to win both the Bundesliga title and the Champions League that season. Magdeburg remains tied with Dynamo Dresden as the record winner of the former East German cup competition, with each club holding seven titles.
Underdogs Jeddeloh II and Großaspach host upper-tier sides
SSV Jeddeloh II, a fourth-tier Regionalliga club from the Ammerland district and the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, will host second-division team Hertha BSC. Jeddeloh II reached the second round by beating top-flight relegated side 1. FC Heidenheim 5-2 in the first round. Third-division newcomer SG Sonnenhof Großaspach was guaranteed home rights as an outsider and will host Bundesliga club FC Augsburg. Großaspach advanced to the round of 32 after securing a 3-0 penalty shootout win over 2. Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld in the opening stage.
Regional matchups complete the round of 32
Several other clubs from the upper divisions learned their second-round routes. Promoted Bundesliga side SV Elversberg will play at home in the Saarland against 2. Bundesliga club SV Darmstadt 98. Both surviving representatives from Rhineland-Palatinate received away fixtures, with Bundesliga side FSV Mainz 05 traveling to 2. Bundesliga club VfL Bochum and 1. FC Kaiserslautern challenging Hannover 96 in an all-second-division contest. SC Freiburg secured a home match against relegated VfL Wolfsburg, while TSG Hoffenheim travels north to face second-tier Holstein Kiel. Borussia Mönchengladbach completes the slate with a home tie against Karlsruher SC.
