IMGW issues dense fog alerts across northern Poland with visibility dropping below 200 meters
Poland's meteorological institute issued first-degree warnings for six voivodeships from Saturday night through Sunday morning, while daytime temperatures are set to reach 23 degrees Celsius.
Fog alerts across six voivodeships
Poland's Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) issued first-degree weather warnings for dense fog across northern and western regions of the country. The yellow alert takes effect at 23:00 on Saturday and remains active until 09:00 on Sunday. Forecasters predict that visibility will fall below 200 meters in affected zones, creating hazardous conditions for drivers and pedestrians. IMGW set the probability of occurrence at 80 percent in northern districts.
The alert covers the entire territory of the West Pomeranian and Pomeranian voivodeships, as well as designated counties across four neighboring provinces. In Greater Poland, warnings apply to the counties of Czarnków-Trzcianka, Piła, Chodzież, and Złotów. In Kuyavian-Pomeranian, eleven administrative districts are included, covering Bydgoszcz, Grudziądz, Brodnica, Chełmno, Nakło, Sępólno, Świecie, Tuchola, and Wąbrzeźno. The alert also extends to Lubusz counties around Gorzów Wielkopolski and Warmian-Masurian districts including Elbląg, Olsztyn, Braniewo, Bartoszyce, Ostróda, Iława, and Nowe Miasto Lubawskie.

Temperature spread and weekend conditions
Chilly nighttime conditions will promote moisture condensation across lowlands and river basins. Overnight minimum temperatures will range from 4 degrees Celsius in Warmia, Mazury, and Podkarpacie to 5 degrees in the southeast, 8 degrees in central Poland, and 11 degrees in western districts. Sub-Carpathian mountain valleys face the coldest overnight temperatures, with local readings falling between 1 and 3 degrees Celsius.
IMGW synoptician Anna Gryczman pointed out that fog patches could extend beyond the main alert zones.
We do not rule out that short-lived fog or thick mist may form across most of the country.
Sunday morning will bring localized visibility reductions down to 300 meters before clearing into a predominantly sunny afternoon. Daytime temperatures will reach 17 degrees Celsius along the coast, in northeastern Poland, and in Podhale, rising to 20 degrees in central Poland and peaking at 23 degrees Celsius in Lubusz Land. Winds will blow lightly from the east and southeast, turning moderate in the west with occasional gusts in the northwest and across the Sudetes.

Extended outlook under Russian anticyclone
The stable autumn weather will persist into early next week, marked by cool mornings and pleasant daytime temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius. During the night from Sunday to Monday, cloud cover will build across southern regions, with low-lying terrain likely experiencing renewed fog reducing visibility to 300 meters. Minimum temperatures that night will range from 6 degrees in the north and south to 11 degrees in the west and 13 degrees Celsius along the Baltic seashore.
Meteorologist Bogdan Bąk from Bydgoszcz explained the wider atmospheric mechanism driving this dry, settled period through 7 October.
The region will come under the influence of a high-pressure system from Russia.
Atmospheric pressure under the anticyclone will climb above 1020 hPa, occasionally reaching up to 1025 hPa. IMGW synopticians indicated that no hazardous weather systems are expected during the coming week, with any significant weather change anticipated no earlier than the subsequent weekend.
