Ukraine hits targets deep in Russia and the Caspian Sea as civilian toll mounts on both sides

On Saturday, both Ukraine and Russia reported a series of strikes that killed civilians far from the frontlines. President Volodímir Zelenski said Russian attacks from Friday evening to Saturday morning left six people dead and ten wounded in eastern and northern Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russian-installed authorities in occupied Zaporizhzhia accused Kyiv of attacking a tourist camp, raising the death toll to 11 by Saturday afternoon.

Russian missile and drone barrage hits Sloviansk and Sumy

In Sloviansk, a Russian bombardment on Friday evening struck residential buildings, killing three people and damaging more than ten structures. Zelenski stated that the Russian military could not have been unaware that the targets were civilian. In the northern city of Sumy, a drone attack on a Nova Post branch killed three others, according to the president. Kharkiv and a market in Zaporizhzhia also suffered damage from the overnight strikes. The head of Sumy's military administration, Sergiy Kryvosheenko, said that one of the victims was a 49-year-old man and the identity of the second was being investigated.

Two missiles and nearly 160 drones were used by Russia. For now, we know that ten people are wounded.

Long-range Ukrainian strikes on Russian logistics

While repelling the barrage, Ukraine carried out its own long-range attacks. Zelenski announced that Ukrainian forces struck a components factory in Kirov, about 1,200 km from Ukraine's border, a logistics centre in Ekaterinburg, 1,740 km east of Moscow, an oil refinery in Tyumen and a military warehouse in Rostov-on-Don. In the Caspian Sea, Ukrainian forces hit vessels carrying military cargo from Iran and a Russian military ship.

Toll rises from Ukrainian strike on occupied Zaporizhzhia camp

In the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia, the Russian-appointed governor Evgueni Balitski reported that Ukrainian forces hit a tourist camp in the town of Kirilivka, Melitopol district. He initially said eight people were killed and 14 wounded, including minors. Hours later, he raised the figures to 11 dead and 16 wounded, including five children. Balitski accused Kyiv of deliberate targeting of civilians.

The enemy saw and understood perfectly who it was attacking. It deliberately attacked civilians. This is an atrocious crime, characteristic only of the Ukrainian regime.

Air defences intercept most of the Russian swarm

Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia used two Kh-59/69 guided missiles launched from aircraft over the Black Sea and 157 Shahed-type drones in the overnight attack. Air defence units downed 127 drones and one missile. In Zaporizhzhia city, a man was wounded in a separate enemy strike, said Ivan Fedorov, head of the city's military administration.
