Multiple gunshots were fired during the confrontation, directly striking both district employees. The gunfire prompted multiple emergency telephone calls to police and rescue dispatch centers around 14:00, with callers reporting sounds resembling gunshots. The confrontation occurred in a residential area of Berngau, a Bavarian community of roughly 2,600 residents situated in the district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate.
