Financial growth and product portfolio expansion

During Cook's leadership between August 2011 and August 2026, Apple expanded its market capitalization from hundreds of billions of dollars to nearly $5 trillion, a fourteen-fold increase. Over the same span, the company quadrupled its overall revenue and quarterly profits. Apple shares rose by more than 2,200%, yielding an annualized return of roughly 23.5% that exceeded the annual gains of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500, and the Nasdaq Composite. Cook broadened the device lineup by introducing multiple size and price tiers for the iPhone, turned Jobs' concept for patient healthcare technology into the Apple Watch, and built high-margin services into a central revenue pillar.

John Ternus elevated to chief executive

John Ternus, who joined Apple in 2001 and previously served as senior vice president of hardware engineering, assumes the role of chief executive on Tuesday, 1 September 2026. During his tenure leading hardware development across the entire device lineup, Ternus oversaw the introduction of products including the ultra-thin iPhone Air, the entry-level MacBook Neo, and AirPods featuring integrated hearing health tools.
