Five-year-old German girl left alone on Warsaw platform after parents' train departs
A five-year-old German girl was left alone on the platform at Warsaw West station on 4 July when her parents' train departed without her. A fellow passenger alerted police, and the child was safely reunited with her family within an hour.
The incident
On Saturday, 4 July, a five-year-old German girl was left alone on a platform at Warsaw West station. A passenger noticed the child standing by herself and immediately informed police officers from the Warsaw Prevention Unit who were patrolling the area. The witness reported that the girl's family had boarded a train heading to Warsaw Centralna station, leaving her behind on the platform.
Police officers immediately went to the indicated location. On the platform they found a 5-year-old German citizen. The officers took care of the girl, ensuring her safety and support until the situation was clarified.
Police response
The officers notified the duty officer at the railway police station. At the same time, the girl's parents, who were travelling with another child, had already reported the incident to police at Warsaw Centralna station. They explained that while they were unloading luggage from the train, the doors closed unexpectedly and the train departed, leaving their daughter on the platform.
During the investigation, it turned out that the girl's parents, together with their second child, had reported to the police unit and informed them of the situation. According to their account, while unloading luggage, the train doors closed, the train started moving, and their daughter was left on the platform.
Reunion
Police transported the girl to the police station, where she was safely handed over to her parents. The parents did not report any health concerns and did not request medical assistance. The girl was in good condition throughout the ordeal, which lasted less than an hour from the moment the witness raised the alarm.
Safety reminder
Police used the incident to remind the public about the importance of vigilance at railway stations and on platforms. They stressed that a moment of inattention is enough for a child to lose contact with their guardians. Anyone who sees an unaccompanied child should immediately notify the authorities or the nearest police patrol.
