Girl dies in hospital four days after Co Cavan crash that killed her mother, 53-year-old Nell Raven
The girl was critically injured when the car driven by her mother collided with a flatbed van on the R162 at Corclare, Shercock, last Friday. She died at Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin on Tuesday afternoon.
The crash
On Friday, July 24, at around 4.30pm, a car and a flatbed van collided on the R162 road at Corclare, near Shercock in County Cavan. The driver of the car, a woman in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was later identified as 53-year-old Nell Raven, from Milltown. Her young daughter, who was travelling as a passenger, suffered critical injuries and was taken to Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin. Ambulance crews also treated a number of other people from both vehicles at the roadside.
The child's death
The girl remained in critical condition in hospital over the weekend. On Tuesday afternoon, July 28, she died. Gardaí confirmed the death in a statement issued to the media that evening. The loss of the child makes the collision a double fatality for the Raven family. The child's identity has not been made public.

Garda appeal
