ZUS: changing your bank account for 800+ requires a new application, 30 days to process
Parents receiving 800+ who plan to switch bank accounts must file a new application with the new account number. ZUS has 30 days to review it and does not change the payout account automatically before then.
Who needs a new application
Parents and guardians receiving the 800+ child benefit who plan to change the bank account where payments arrive must file a new application that includes the new account number. The benefit is 800 zł a month for each child under 18 and does not depend on family income. Mothers and fathers are the main entitled persons when the child lives with them and is dependent on them, and the law also covers actual and legal guardians, foster parents and people running family children's homes. Opening a new account alone does not update the payout details held by ZUS.
How to apply and what happens next
Applications and account changes are accepted only electronically, through eZUS, the mZUS app, the Emp@tia portal or electronic banking. The new form requires all the required data again together with the new account number. ZUS has 30 days to review the request. After approval it changes the payout account automatically, and confirmation of the change will be available on the eZUS portal. People living in an EU or EFTA member state can also receive the benefit on an account held in that state.
Deadlines and timing
The benefit is granted for periods running from 1 June to 31 May of the following year, and the current period ends on 31 May 2027. Applications for this period could be submitted from 1 February. According to ZUS, filing by the end of June secured payment from 1 June, while later applications pay from the month in which they were filed. The timeline below shows the key dates for the current period.
- Applications for the current period can be filed
- Payment from 1 June for applications filed by the end of June
- Current benefit period ends
ZUS also reminded parents of newborns that an application filed within three months of birth brings backpay from the date of birth. After that window, payments start from the month of application. The same three-month rule applies when a child is placed in someone's care or adopted. ZUS summarised its position in a statement, saying:
Persons receiving the 800+ child benefit who plan to change their bank account should submit a new application well in advance. ZUS has 30 days to process it, so it is not worth leaving this formality to the last moment.
The reminder was published on 8 October 2026, and the articles state that people who keep using the account named in their existing application do not need to file again.
