Mike Flanagan's 'Carrie' Series Sets October 7 Premiere on Prime Video, First Teaser Released

Prime Video brought Mike Flanagan's reimagining of Stephen King's 'Carrie' to San Diego Comic-Con on July 25, debuting the official teaser trailer and announcing that all eight episodes will arrive on the platform October 7. The panel, Flanagan's first appearance at the convention, was accompanied by key art that includes a nod to the novel's infamous bloody prom.

Flanagan, who serves as writer, showrunner, executive producer and director of four episodes, was joined by cast members for behind‑the‑scenes insights.

Cast and Characters

Summer H. Howell takes on the title role of Carrie White, a misfit high‑schooler whose life of seclusion with her domineering mother is upended by a bullying scandal and the awakening of telekinetic powers. Samantha Sloyan portrays Margaret White, Carrie's fiercely protective mother. Matthew Lillard stars as Principal Grayle, while Siena Agudong plays Sue Snell, Carrie's sympathetic classmate, and Alison Thornton is the antagonistic Chris Hargensen. The large ensemble also includes Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, and Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin.

Howell is no stranger to horror, having appeared in 'Curse of Chucky', 'Cult of Chucky' and 'Channel Zero'. Sloyan, a frequent Flanagan collaborator, previously featured in his series 'The Haunting of Hill House', 'Midnight Mass' and 'The Fall of the House of Usher'.

The series' logline describes the story as a "bold and timely reimagining" that transplants Carrie's ordeal into the social‑media age. After her father's sudden death, Carrie is thrown into public high school where a viral bullying scandal tears through her community while her mysterious powers begin to surface alongside adolescence.

King's novel, published in 1974, spent 14 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into more than 35 languages. The 1976 Brian De Palma film, starring Sissy Spacek, earned Academy Award nominations for Spacek and Piper Laurie. Subsequent screen treatments included a 1999 sequel, a 2002 television film and a 2013 remake, but this is the first time the story has been adapted as a television series.

The Road to Release

The project was first reported to be in development in October 2024 and received an official greenlight from Amazon in April 2025. Flanagan, who moved to Amazon Studios after a long run at Netflix, made the series his first priority under a new overall deal.

All eight episodes will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios, with King executive producing alongside Flanagan and Trevor Macy.
