Two-car collision in Opole injures 17-year-old pedestrian after vehicle hits sidewalk

Collision at downtown intersection

A traffic collision occurred on Saturday morning, 26 September 2026, at the intersection of Ozimska and Reymonta streets in downtown Opole. Two passenger vehicles, a Toyota and a Seat, collided when one of the vehicles failed to yield the right of way at the central junction. Four people were travelling inside the two vehicles at the moment of the crash, including two children. Preliminary findings by traffic police officers established the primary mechanism of the collision.

Karol Maryszczak from the Opole police press team described the preliminary findings regarding the vehicles involved:

Preliminary findings indicate that the 34-year-old female driver of the Toyota failed to yield the right of way to the 40-year-old female driver of the Seat vehicle. As a result of the collision, the Seat entered the area of the nearby sidewalk.

Pedestrian struck and construction perimeter damaged

The force of the impact deflected the Seat off the roadway, propelling the vehicle directly onto the adjacent sidewalk where pedestrians were walking. The car struck pedestrians in the area and collided with a fence that separated the pedestrian walkway from an active construction site for a municipal pocket park. A 17-year-old female pedestrian sustained an arm injury during the collision. Emergency medical responders provided immediate first aid to the teenager at the scene before transferring her to a hospital emergency ward for further medical evaluation.

Responders confirmed that the 17-year-old's injuries were not life-threatening. The four occupants across both vehicles, including both adult drivers and the two children, escaped the collision without any physical injuries. Other pedestrians in the vicinity of the intersection were unharmed during the collision.

Emergency services deployment and dispatch details

Emergency services received the initial report of the accident shortly before 10:00 on Saturday morning. The dispatch center initially sent expanded personnel and equipment to the scene, including five fire engines with crews from State Fire Service rescue units JRG 1 and JRG 2 in Opole, alongside ambulances and police patrols. Fire service officials noted that the oversized initial response resulted from an inaccurate initial emergency call.

The report was very imprecise in its content, speaking of a much larger incident than actually took place.

Investigation and site clearance

Following an on-site assessment by emergency commanders, four of the five dispatched fire engines concluded their duties and returned to base, while one fire crew stayed behind to assist police with securing the scene. Traffic police officers conducted breathalyzer tests on both drivers involved in the incident. The tests confirmed that both the 34-year-old Toyota driver and the 40-year-old Seat driver were completely sober.

Officers from the Opole traffic police unit collected physical evidence, marked vehicle trajectories, and secured traces at the intersection to reconstruct the exact course of events. Emergency teams remained at the Ozimska and Reymonta intersection through the late morning to clear debris and secure the damaged perimeter around the pocket park construction zone.
