Constanța police fined a 21-year-old man 10,000 lei after images of his car on a Cap Aurora beach spread online. Police Section 1 Neptun identified him on 12 October, and internet users called for harsher penalties for drivers who do this.
The beach incident
Police in Constanța said a 21-year-old man drove a car onto a beach in the Cap Aurora resort on Saturday, 10 October. Images of the car on the sand were posted online and drew disapproving reactions from internet users, who demanded harsh measures against drivers who behave this way. The footage shows a car registered in Bucharest, stopped on the beach very close to the sea. The original video carried an ironic caption and generated many reactions on social media.

A separate case in Mangalia
In September, Mangalia police began chasing a 26-year-old man who did not stop when signalled to. During the pursuit he drove onto the beach, turned the car using the handbrake, then accelerated sharply toward Lavrion street. Police eventually intercepted him and stopped the car safely on M.I. Dobrogeanu street in Mangalia. A breathalyser test showed 0.80 mg/l of pure alcohol in his exhaled air, and he was taken to hospital for biological samples. Checks showed he held no driving licence for any category of vehicle. After the evidence was gathered, he was detained for 24 hours and placed in the Centre for Detention and Preventive Arrest.
