Text messages and motive

Central to the prosecution's case were more than 100,000 text messages exchanged between Flynn and 24-year-old Alleigha Botner, a worship leader at the same church. Botner testified that she met Flynn in 2022 as an intern and entered into a secret relationship with him starting in March 2024. In May 2025, Flynn wrote to Botner stating that he would kill his wife in a heartbeat if he could avoid hell, citing feelings of hatred. Defense attorney Patrick Mulligan argued during the trial that police never found the murder weapon, nor did forensic testing prove that Flynn discharged a firearm that morning.
