Bus slams into electricity pole in Ano Liosia, three passengers injured
The crash happened just before midnight on Friday on Megalou Alexandrou Avenue. Three of about ten passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries after the bus lost control and crossed into the opposite lane.
The crash
A city bus serving the Ano Liosia area collided with a concrete electricity pole on Megalou Alexandrou Avenue shortly before midnight on 12 June 2026. For reasons still unknown, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer into the oncoming lane and strike the DEDDIE pole with severe force. The impact completely destroyed the pole. A small fire erupted but was extinguished immediately before it could spread.
Casualties and response
Around ten passengers were on board at the time. Three of them, one man and one woman according to initial reports, suffered light injuries and were transported to the Erythros Stavros (Red Cross) hospital for first aid. None of the injuries are described as life-threatening. Emergency crews, including technical teams from the power utility, arrived quickly to restore electricity and replace the damaged pole.
Residents' warnings
Local residents have used the incident to renew complaints about what they call an extremely dangerous road. They say the boulevard has become a trap, with frequent heavy vehicle traffic, malfunctioning traffic lights, and a history of similar accidents.
The frequent passage of heavy vehicles combined with defective traffic lights turn the avenue into a trap.
Video footage captured by a security camera and shared by Greek media shows the moment of impact and the extensive damage to the bus. No further disruption to public transport services was reported.
