Bundesliga 2026/27 fixtures: Bayern Munich open against Stuttgart as Klassiker set for matchday 8
The DFL has published the full fixture list for the 64th Bundesliga season. Bayern Munich host VfB Stuttgart on 28 August, while the first Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund is scheduled for late October.
Season opener: Bayern Munich host VfB Stuttgart
The 64th Bundesliga season begins on 28 August with champions Bayern Munich against DFB-Pokal finalists VfB Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena. The fixture is a repeat of last season's cup final, which Bayern won 3-0 with a Harry Kane hat-trick. Sat.1 and Sky will broadcast live from 20:30 CEST. The match kicks off a campaign that includes an earlier Supercup clash between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund on 22 August, also in Dortmund, alongside the DFB-Pokal first round.
Key clashes: Klassiker, Revierderby, and North derby
The first league meeting between Bayern and Dortmund (the 'Klassiker') comes on matchday 8, scheduled for 30 October to 1 November in Munich. The return leg in Dortmund is set for the weekend of 5–7 March 2027 (matchday 25). Revierderby enthusiasts will see promoted Schalke 04 host Borussia Dortmund on the first December weekend, with the reverse fixture in Dortmund on 9–11 April. 2. Bundesliga: Bochum vs Hertha opens the second tier
The second division starts three weeks earlier, on 7 August, when VfL Bochum host Hertha BSC at the Ruhrstadion. It is Hertha's second consecutive opening fixture in the 2. Liga, after losing to Schalke a year ago. The match will be shown free-to-air on Sat.1. Kaiserslautern, also in the second tier, face a difficult trip to relegated VfL Wolfsburg on the opening weekend, followed by a South-West derby at home to Karlsruher SC on matchday 2.
Newcomers and scheduling innovations
Among the three promoted teams, SV Elversberg makes its top-flight debut at home against Bayer Leverkusen, while Schalke and Paderborn start with away fixtures at Augsburg and Mainz respectively. The full fixture list was unveiled after months of complex modelling involving custom software and mathematics professor Stephan Westphal. DFL's Andreas Farr noted the scale of the effort:
Exact kick-off times and days will be announced block by block during the season, depending on European competition schedules.Until the final fixture lists, there are hundreds of computation runs.
Broadcast and season calendar
Sat.1 secured free-to-air rights for both opening fixtures: Bayern–Stuttgart and Bochum–Hertha. The remaining matches are split between pay-TV partners Sky and DAZN. The winter break runs from 21 December to 7 January. The final matchday (34) of the Bundesliga is on 22 May 2027, with the 2. Liga concluding a day later. If Bayern clinch the title, they would receive the trophy after the home game against Eintracht Frankfurt.
