Record gathering in central Bucharest

On 12 September 2026, approximately 20,000 people gathered in central Bucharest to share a meal along a 5,055-meter banquet table, setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous dining table. The arrangement stretched from Unirii Boulevard to Constitution Square (Piața Constituției), directly facing the Palace of the Parliament. Kitchen logistics and food distribution

Kitchen staff prepared more than five tonnes of food to deliver 20,000 free meal portions during the afternoon. The menu featured traditional Romanian dishes, sausages, eggs, rice, desserts, and fresh fruit, alongside thousands of bottles of mineral water and juice. Hospital funding and organizational partners

The gathering functioned as a charity campaign organized by Fundația Metropolis with support from Untold and foundation partner Codin Maticiuc. Large video screens installed across Constitution Square broadcast promotional materials and project details to attendees throughout the evening. Voluntary contributions collected from participants will finance the construction of the first dedicated pediatric psychiatric clinic in Romania, located on the grounds of the Prof. Dr. Alexandru Obregia Hospital in Bucharest. Project plans specify a 3,900-square-meter facility with an estimated budget of approximately €16.5 million, funded through individual donations and private sponsorships. According to Fundația Metropolis, the completed clinic will treat more than 5,700 children each year.

Civic response and municipal backing

Fundația Metropolis stated that the project addresses critical healthcare shortages, noting that the existing pediatric psychiatric department at Obregia Hospital operates in an aging, overcrowded facility that cannot meet the medical and emotional needs of young patients. Bucharest General Mayor Ciprian Ciucu congratulated the organizers and praised the civic response that brought thousands of residents into public spaces together.
