Tresoldi hat-trick helps Club Brugge beat Inter 4-3 at San Siro
Inter remain on zero points in the Champions League League Phase after a 4-3 home defeat to Club Brugge at San Siro. Nicolò Tresoldi scored three goals for the visitors, a penalty and two early second-half strikes, while Lautaro Martinez netted twice for Inter.
Brugge come from behind to win 4-3
Club Brugge beat Inter 4-3 at San Siro on 13 October in the Champions League League Phase, leaving the Milan side on zero points in the competition. Nicolò Tresoldi, a 2004-born forward of Italian and German background, was the central figure of the match and scored three goals. Inter went behind after Hakan Çalhanoğlu used rough means to stop a Brugge break, and the Norwegian referee pointed to the spot, a call Il Giornale described as somewhat generous. Tresoldi converted the penalty with a low strike under the crossbar. Earlier, at the 26th minute, a rebound after a corner had given him a shot that struck the crossbar, and Yann Sommer, the Swiss goalkeeper and a former Inter player, made several saves in the first half. Fanpage described Brugge as unleashed, and the visitors finished the match with four goals.
Tresoldi's hat-trick
After the penalty, Tresoldi scored two more goals early in the second half, and those strikes gave Brugge a clear advantage. Fanpage credited Forbs with two assists and called the display a hat-trick that placed Tresoldi in front of European football. Il Messaggero gave Tresoldi a 9 in its match report card and described his performance as a hat-trick at San Siro. Il Giornale also suggested that the Italian national team would find a talent of his kind useful.
Lautaro Martinez's goals and Inter's comeback push
Lautaro Martinez gave Inter an equaliser in the first half, finishing a counterattack that Zielinski started and that Thuram and Dimarco carried forward. A goal by Lautaro Martinez at the 36th minute had been ruled out for offside just before. After Tresoldi's two early second-half goals, Lautaro Martinez scored again to revive Inter, and Thuram's curling effort at the 49th minute went high after Diouf had won the ball. Vermant then scored Brugge's fourth goal, and Bonny pulled one back for Inter in stoppage time, though the 4-3 defeat stood.

Inter's Champions League position
The defeat leaves Inter on zero points in the League Phase, following a loss to Real Madrid earlier in the competition. Il Messaggero wrote that the path through the Champions League has become much harder for Cristian Chivu's side. The same report card rated Akanji 4.5 and cited too many errors from him. Fanpage described the match as Inter's attempt at redemption after the Real Madrid defeat, and the result left them still without a point in the League Phase.
