Reported drop in offenses against politicians

Official police data released in Potsdam confirms a downward trend in criminal offenses committed against political figures and party infrastructure in the state of Brandenburg. The statistics were disclosed by Brandenburg Interior Minister Jan Redmann of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in an official response to a parliamentary inquiry submitted by Social Democratic Party (SPD) lawmaker Andreas Noack. During the second quarter covering the months of April to June, authorities registered a total of 42 such offenses across the federal state. Within this aggregate figure, 31 reported cases directly targeted elected mandate holders, public officeholders, and representatives of political parties. An additional 11 criminal acts were carried out against the constituency offices of lawmakers and local party offices.

Comparison with earlier election period

The second-quarter figures show a notable reduction when measured against historical data collected during the same period in the previous year. Between April and June 2025, authorities in Brandenburg documented 105 criminal offenses directed at politicians and party offices. That figure in 2025 had already fallen compared to the opening quarter of that same year, during which 177 offenses were officially reported to law enforcement. The elevated volume of 177 cases recorded during the first three months of 2025 coincided with the campaign period for Germany's snap federal election. The drop from 177 cases in early 2025 to 105 in mid-2025 and down to 42 in the recent second quarter reflects a continuous reduction in reported political incidents following the vote.

Investigation outcomes and ideological backgrounds

State police investigators have identified 15 suspects in connection with the 42 registered offenses committed between April and June. Law enforcement officials categorized each incident by ideological motivation based on police assessments of the crime scenes and suspects. According to the police classification, 16 of the offenses were determined to be politically motivated crimes from the left. Another 9 criminal acts were officially categorized as politically motivated offenses originating from the right. The remaining 17 recorded offenses could not be assigned to any specific ideological background by investigators during the reporting period.

Targets among political party offices

Property crimes and attacks against political party infrastructure in Brandenburg targeted multiple political organizations during the three-month period. Out of the 11 registered offenses against buildings, party offices belonging to the Alternative for Germany (AfD) were attacked in four separate instances. Offices associated with The Left (Die Linke) were targeted in three distinct criminal incidents over the same quarter. These 11 attacks on lawmaker premises and party headquarters occurred alongside the 31 registered offenses directed personally at officeholders and party delegates.
