Bordeaux-Begles beats Racing 92 64-5 as Louis Bielle-Biarrey extends contract to 2029

Contract extension at Chaban-Delmas

Shortly before kickoff against Racing 92, Union Bordeaux-Begles announced a two-year contract extension for winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey, keeping him at the club until 2029. The announcement was delivered to nearly 32,000 spectators assembled at Stade Chaban-Delmas for the opening round of the Top 14 season. Negotiations between club president Laurent Marti and the 23-year-old winger began in May and concluded in August, operating within the league's 11 million euro salary cap limit. The winger, who joined Bordeaux from Grenoble in 2021, had been under contract until 2027 and drew interest regarding his ambition to represent France in rugby sevens at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

I can go as far as the offer I just sent, because it is unimaginable to lose Louis. He is a great player, a great guy, one of the gems of our rugby. But I cannot do just anything either.

Ten-try rout of Racing 92

Bordeaux opened the scoring after three minutes when prop Sipili Falatea crossed the try line. Within 15 minutes, the hosts built a 26-0 advantage as Cameron Woki scored twice and fellow back-rower Pierre Bochaton added another try. Maxime Lucu converted eight of Bordeaux's ten tries throughout the match. Racing, who were defeated 71-17 by Toulouse in the previous season's semi-finals, have conceded 20 tries and 135 points over their last two competitive outings.

I feel great in the club from a personal point of view, and it's true that the results these last two years have been largely good. We still want to do better and I feel like the club is doing what it needs to, and I want to be a part of that.

Disciplinary card and individual milestones

Bordeaux played a portion of the first half at a numerical disadvantage after Georgian prop Lasha Pkhakadze received the Top 14's first 20-minute orange card. Despite the sanction, new English signing Tom Willis crossed for two first-half tries to widen the gap. Maxime Lucu and Tongan forward Toma'akino Taufa added tries within six minutes of the restart, before Australian lock Seru Uru scored Racing's lone try. Bielle-Biarrey scored twice in the second half, taking his club tally to 66 tries in 84 appearances for Bordeaux. His record includes 29 tries in 27 caps for France, having won the Six Nations Player of the Tournament award in both 2025 and 2026.

Results across the Top 14

Elsewhere in the opening round, Section Paloise secured a 27-19 away victory against Montpellier. Montpellier played with 13 men after props Baptiste Erdocio and Luka Japaridze were yellow-carded within eight minutes during the first half. Captain Yacouba Camara scored in the 56th minute to give Montpellier a temporary 19-17 lead. English fly-half Joe Simmonds kicked three conversions and two penalties, converting a decisive try from Australian full-back Jack Maddocks to deny Montpellier a losing bonus point. In another fixture, South African centre Jeremy Ward scored a try for Stade Francais.
