Bon Jovi halts Madison Square Garden concert after 90 minutes, blames sinus infection and vows to reschedule

On Thursday night, July 23, Jon Bon Jovi brought his Madison Square Garden concert to an early close after roughly 90 minutes. The frontman, visibly struggling, told the packed arena that he was not delivering his best performance. A band spokesperson later confirmed that Bon Jovi had been battling a sinus infection, which led to the show's premature ending. The spokesperson added that Jon has said numerous times it has been a joy to return to live shows for the band. The concert was the eighth of a nine-date residency at the famed New York venue, part of the Bon Jovi Forever Tour that kicked off on July 7.

Apology and promise to fans

Bon Jovi addressed the crowd directly, apologising and asking fans to hold onto their ticket stubs. He said he was hurt and not giving his best, and promised to figure out a rescheduling plan. The singer then said he needed to "cool it for the night" but assured the audience he felt fine otherwise and would see them again soon. The crowd responded with warm applause as he hugged his bandmates and gave a thumbs up before leaving the stage.

Health struggles and recovery

Bon Jovi's vocal issues have a longer history. In 2022, he underwent reconstructive surgery on his vocal cords after one had atrophied, followed by years of rehabilitation. He detailed his struggles in the 2024 Hulu docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story. The Forever Tour marks his first major tour since that operation. In a June interview with People, he said he was fully recovered, though the process took longer than expected. He also praised his bandmates for their unwavering support, saying they never doubted him or looked for other work, and that their sacrifices deepened his love for them.

I'm fully recovered. It was longer than I'd ever expected, but it had to be right. We never lost faith.

They never doubted [me] and never looked for work or decided to retire. The sacrifices that each one of them have made to be there for me is on a whole 'nother level. They said, 'No, we're with you.' Every day of every rehearsal they were there with me. My love for them has only deepened.

Tour schedule and next steps

The next scheduled show is this Sunday, July 26, at Madison Square Garden, the final date of the New York residency. After that, the band heads to the United Kingdom and Ireland. Concerts are set for Edinburgh on August 28, Dublin on August 30, and three nights at London's Wembley Stadium on September 4, 6, and 9. The band's spokesperson said updated information on the rescheduled show would be available shortly.
