The same report understands he died some time before he was found and may have lain undiscovered for several days.
The post-mortem will be carried out on the morning of Friday, 16 October by the assistant state pathologist. Its outcome will guide the direction of the Garda investigation. Until then, the cause of death has not been established in the reporting.
Garda and forensic response
An incident room has been set up at Mallow Garda Station to coordinate the inquiry. Members of the Garda Technical Bureau from Dublin were asked to attend the scene for a technical and forensic examination. The State Pathologist's office was informed, and the body was due to be moved to the morgue at Cork University Hospital on the evening of 15 October once the scene examination was complete.
The investigation is at an early stage, and gardaí have not publicly linked the death to any named person or motive in the coverage so far.
