Firefighters bring Beja scrub fire under control after 16-hour operation

A scrub and pasture fire in the municipality of Beja was declared under control at 10:42 on Sunday morning, roughly 16 hours after the initial alert. The fire ignited on Saturday afternoon in an area known as Guarita Nova, with emergency services first alerted at 18:35.
According to the Baixo Alentejo Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command, 92 operational personnel supported by 31 vehicles remained on site at 11:00 to conduct mop-up and dampening operations. Firefighters had monitored the potential need to evacuate a wedding party venue on Saturday night, but officials determined that an evacuation was unnecessary.
