Bednarek scores and confirms second child
Defender Jan Bednarek extended Poland's lead to 5:0 in the 66th minute, rising highest to convert a corner kick from Sebastian Szymański with a header. Following the strike, the 30-year-old FC Porto centre-back placed the match ball under his jersey, kissed it, and sucked his thumb in a traditional goal celebration. Polish broadcaster TVP Sport shared footage of the gesture on X under the caption "A goal and a celebration with a message". Bednarek subsequently confirmed the announcement on Instagram by sharing a match photograph captioned "baby on it's way". His wife, Julia Bednarek, verified the news on social media with images showing their daughter Lilly beside flowers and a cake lettered "baby", adding the caption "Oops... We did it again".
Relationship history and family milestones
The couple began dating in 2017 after connecting online through Snapchat and FaceTime while Jan Bednarek played for Southampton and Julia lived in Poland. They met in person for the first time in Warsaw at the PGE Narodowy during an international match between Poland and Kazakhstan. Jan Bednarek proposed in 2020 during a trip to the Greek island of Mykonos. In August 2021, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Lilly Bednarek, before marrying on 16 June 2022. Julia Bednarek, a former model and media graduate, relocated with her husband to Portugal following his transfer from Southampton to FC Porto. She previously reflected on their early relationship in an interview.
With Janek, we met through the internet. He wrote to me on Snapchat and that is how it began. We started texting every day, then we spoke on FaceTime because Janek was in England and I was in Poland. It was difficult to meet. And the first time I saw him in person was at the Poland against Kazakhstan match, where I first met his managers, then Janek's parents, and only then him. It clicked right away and we knew that we were made for each other. There is no greater love.
