Official statements from judicial authorities confirmed that the individual was a man in his thirties who had been discharged from a psychiatric hospital on Friday, 18 September, less than twenty-four hours before the incident.

Following the initial witness reports, municipal authorities utilized the urban video surveillance network across Beauvais to locate the armed suspect. Monitoring operators tracked the path of the motorcycle through the city streets and quickly identified the exact address of the suspect's home. Police patrol units mobilized and arrived at the property shortly before 07:00 on Saturday morning to carry out an arrest. The man entered the building and barricaded himself inside as officers approached the entrance.
