Bayern Munich extends contracts of CEO Dreesen and sports head Eberl to 2029

Supervisory board decision

The FC Bayern Munich supervisory board has voted to extend the contracts of chief executive officer Jan-Christian Dreesen and board member for sport Max Eberl through 30 June 2029. Both executives previously held contracts that were set to expire in the summer of 2027. The decision was formalized during a regular supervisory board meeting on Tuesday, maintaining the club's administrative leadership following their domestic league and cup double win in the previous season.

Supervisory board chairman Herbert Hainer pointed to continuity and organizational stability as the central reasons behind the extensions.

Leadership structure and executive roles

The executive board at the German champion consists of three members: Dreesen, Eberl, and Rouven Kasper, who took office on 1 January 2026. The 58-year-old Dreesen joined FC Bayern in February 2013 and replaced Oliver Kahn as chief executive in May 2023. Beyond his club duties, Dreesen has sat on the Bundesliga presidential committee since August 2016 and has led its licensing committee since 2019.

The supervisory board that approved the extensions includes honorary president Uli Hoeneß and former chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge alongside various corporate leaders.

Turnaround in backing for Eberl

The contract extension follows a change in internal sentiment toward the 52-year-old Eberl, who assumed his role on 1 March 2024. In May 2026, ahead of the DFB-Pokal final in Berlin, Hoeneß publicly voiced hesitation regarding Eberl, stating that doubts remained and assessing the chances of a contract extension at 60 to 40. Three months later, Hoeneß apologized for his phrasing, upgraded the probability of an extension to 100 percent, and commended Eberl for orchestrating what he termed a perfect transfer window.

Eberl, who developed in Bayern's youth academy before making his professional debut with the club and later serving as sports director at Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig, welcomed the board's vote of confidence.

Transfer operations and squad reshaping

Eberl's standing strengthened following roster adjustments during the summer transfer window. FC Bayern signed German international Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt and Moroccan international Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven, committing approximately €50 million in transfer fees for each player.

The club also secured young talent including Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, while generating well over €30 million from the sale of fringe players. Bayern plans additional roster departures, seeking moves for returning loanees João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza. While the executive board's long-term structure is settled, the club has not yet determined the future of sporting director Christoph Freund.
