Bavaria's 2026 Open-Air Season Kicks Off: From Rock im Park to Summer Breeze, a Guide to the Summer's Biggest Festivals
With Rock im Park opening this weekend, Bavaria's 2026 open-air festival season is set to deliver a diverse summer of music, from heavy metal on an airfield to electronic beats and songwriting in a former monastery.
Rock im Park opens the season
Bavaria's major open-air festival season will launch this coming weekend with Rock im Park in Nuremberg. The event, scheduled for 5 to 7 June, is one of Germany's largest music festivals alongside its twin, Rock am Ring in the Eifel. It will take place on the historic former Nazi party rally grounds, where organizers expect around 80,000 music fans daily. The festival is completely sold out, with around 70 concerts planned across three stages. Headliners this year will include Linkin Park, Iron Maiden, and Volbeat.
Songwriting and electronic diversity in July
Two festivals in July will offer contrasting experiences. "Lieder auf Banz," a singer-songwriter festival, will be held on 3 and 4 July at the former Banz Monastery near Lichtenfels in Upper Franconia. Kabarettist Hannes Ringlstetter will host the program and also perform. The lineup features artists such as "STOPPOK!", Gregor Meyle, Sarah Lesch, and Bodo Wartke, with Johnny Bertl presenting a tribute to the late Austrian songwriter Ludwig Hirsch.
Later in the month, the Open Beatz festival will take place from 24 to 26 July in Herzogenaurach, Middle Franconia. Catering to electronic music fans, it will feature national and international DJs across eight stages, with genres ranging from house and techno to electro and goa. Up to 30,000 visitors can also cool off in a swimming pond, learn dance moves in workshops, relax with yoga or meditation, and even get married on the 50-hectare grounds.
August brings anniversaries and heavy metal
August will see the Taubertal-Festival celebrate its 30th anniversary from 6 to 9 August in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Around 40 bands, including Sido, Biffy Clyro, Sportfreunde Stiller, and Feine Sahne Fischfilet, will perform on three stages. The festival, with up to 15,000 guests, is set in a nature reserve with a view of Rothenburg's historic old town.
Southern Germany's largest heavy metal festival, Summer Breeze, will follow from 12 to 15 August at the airfield in Dinkelsbühl, Middle Franconia. Around 130 bands are expected to perform, including metal scene leaders Helloween, In Flames, and Lamb Of God, alongside numerous newcomers. The festival can accommodate up to 40,000 music fans. While full-festival tickets are sold out, day tickets remain available.

The season also includes the Heimatsound Festival in Oberammergau, which will transform the Passion Theatre into a party mile for two days, showcasing the Alpine music scene. Organizers across Bavaria are preparing for a summer that spans rock, pop, electronic, classical, and jazz, ensuring a wide range of open-air experiences for music fans.
