Benfica announced on Saturday that midfielder Enzo Barrenechea will undergo surgery after sustaining a left knee injury during training. The 25-year-old Argentine suffered a knee sprain that resulted in a torn internal meniscus. The Lisbon club confirmed the diagnosis through an official medical bulletin, stating that the player will undergo an operation in the coming days before beginning his rehabilitation program.

The recovery timeframe for this type of surgical intervention typically ranges between six and eight weeks. The timeline leaves Barrenechea unlikely to return to competitive play before the close of the 2026 calendar year. The injury occurred during a Friday training session at the club's Seixal training ground, shortly before Benfica's scheduled departure for northern Portugal.
