Hansi Flick began Barcelona's LaLiga title defence on Sunday by naming several key starters on the bench while squad members worked back to full match fitness following the World Cup. In the 67th minute, Gordon accelerated down the left wing before laying the ball into the path of Raphinha, who scored his second goal of the match. Four minutes later, Gordon collected a long pass in stride from inside his own half, drove into the penalty area, and squared the ball to allow Fermin Lopez to tap into an empty net.

Fermin Lopez completed the scoring in the 79th minute after receiving a pass on the edge of the penalty area from substitute Xavi Espart. The performance was significant for Lopez, who had missed Spain's World Cup victory due to injury earlier in the summer. The only blemish for the champions came just before halftime, when midfielder Gavi was forced off the pitch with pain in his right knee. Gavi had attracted attention before the match with a pink haircut celebrating Spain's tournament triumph, but the club has yet to release a medical update regarding his condition. The five-goal victory followed a 2-1 win by Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid against Espanyol on Saturday, where the Madrid side secured points with a late winning goal.
