
Italian wave at Wimbledon: Paolini and Cobolli reach last 16, Sonego and Berrettini up next
Jasmine Paolini and Flavio Cobolli booked their spots in the Wimbledon fourth round on Saturday, while Lorenzo Sonego and Matteo Berrettini prepared for their third-round matches later in the day.
Paolini sweeps aside Sakkari
Jasmine Paolini needed just over an hour to dismiss Greece's Maria Sakkari 6-1, 6-2 in the third round. The Italian, who lost in the second round last year, will face Filipina Alex Eala in the last 16 on Monday.
Cobolli survives five-set thriller
Flavio Cobolli dropped the opening set 0-6 in 18 minutes and took a medical timeout before mounting a comeback against Russia's Karen Khachanov. The Roland Garros finalist eventually prevailed 0-6, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the fourth round for the second consecutive year.
Sonego and Berrettini await their turn
Lorenzo Sonego was scheduled to meet world No. 7 Taylor Fritz later on Saturday, with Matteo Berrettini set to face Grigor Dimitrov in the third match on Centre Court. Berrettini, playing consecutive matches on the main stage for the first time since his 2021 final run, is aiming to join Sinner in the last 16.
Doubles duo advances
Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori opened the day with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Jesper de Jong and Valentin Royer to move into the men's doubles round of 16.
Record chase
With Sinner already through, four Italian men could reach the Wimbledon fourth round for the first time. The previous best was three, set in 2025.
