Mikel Arteta signs Arsenal contract extension until 2030 after Premier League title
Arsenal have agreed a new four-year contract with manager Mikel Arteta, keeping the 44-year-old Spaniard in north London until June 2030 following the club's 2026 Premier League title triumph.
Contract extension through 2030
Arsenal confirmed on Wednesday that manager Mikel Arteta has signed a new four-year contract running until June 2030. The 44-year-old Spaniard entered the final stages of his previous deal, which was signed in September 2024 and scheduled to expire in 2027, before agreeing to improved terms following initial reports on 22 September. The new agreement extends his stay in north London to 11 seasons. It includes a salary increase from his previous £10 million annual base, which had also included £5 million in bonuses for Champions League qualification, placing him among the highest-earning managers in European football. Arteta's backroom coaching staff are also in the process of renewing their contracts alongside him. Arteta described his renewal as an honour for his family in an official club statement.
It's a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal.
Turnaround from rebuilding to silverware
Arteta took charge of Arsenal in December 2019 as the permanent successor to Unai Emery, having previously captained the club under Arsène Wenger and worked as an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. After finishing eighth in his first two full Premier League seasons and fifth in the 2021–2022 campaign, Arsenal recorded three consecutive runners-up finishes before winning the Premier League title last season, ending a 22-year wait since 2004. Arteta also won the FA Cup during his first season as manager and guided the club back into the Champions League after a six-year absence. In Europe last season, Arsenal reached their second Champions League final in the club's 140-year history, losing on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain. Across 361 matches in all competitions, Arteta has achieved a 62.05% win rate, the best record of any permanent manager in club history.

Leadership and long-term planning
Following the departure of Pep Guardiola from Manchester City, Arteta is the longest-serving manager across the top four divisions of English football and will complete seven years at the Emirates Stadium on 22 December 2026. Co-chair Josh Kroenke stated in May that securing Arteta's future was the club's utmost priority. Club leadership praised the manager's impact after confirming the extension.
It has been an incredible journey so far and we are excited for what lies ahead in this special relationship.
The commitment coincides with long-term infrastructure discussions in north London. Josh Kroenke confirmed earlier this year that Arsenal are evaluating options to renovate the Emirates Stadium, which opened in 2006, and expand its capacity beyond the current 60,704 seats.
Current campaign and schedule
Arsenal opened the 2026–2027 season with seven wins from their first eight matches across all competitions, a run that included winning the Community Shield against Manchester City. In the Premier League, the reigning champions sit in second place with 12 points after winning four of their opening five fixtures. They trail league leaders Manchester City by three points following a 3-0 away loss to Brighton & Hove Albion prior to the October international break. Arsenal resume their domestic campaign on Saturday with a home fixture against Leeds United.
