Anthropic launches Claude Docs and Slides while merging Cowork into a single chat interface

Unified workspace and automatic routing

Anthropic has unified its conversational assistant, folding its agentic workspace Cowork, Claude Design, and Artifacts into a single default interface. Previously, users had to choose between standard conversations and Cowork by clicking a toggle button below the input box or opening a dedicated Chrome side panel. The company noted that customers frequently struggled to decide which interface belonged to a given task, particularly because work started in one environment did not carry over to another. Under the new model, Claude determines the requirements of a user prompt automatically, shifting from simple conversational answers into multi-step projects using existing connectors and skills.

Collaborative documents and presentation creation

Alongside the interface consolidation, Anthropic introduced Claude Docs and Claude Slides in beta. Users can instruct the assistant to draft documents, build presentation decks, and generate one-page visual sheets directly within a conversation thread. The generated files start as private documents and can be shared with specific colleagues or entire organizations through a link. Collaborators and the AI assistant can work inside the same document simultaneously, leaving comments and revising specific text sections. Users can also present slide decks directly from the Claude platform or export files to external formats including Microsoft Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, and PDF.

Claude can now figure out what a task needs, so what Cowork and Design can do is available from any conversation, with the context, skills, and connectors you already have.

Rollout schedule and platform integration

The unified interface and authoring tools begin rolling out on Wednesday to Claude Pro and Max subscribers across web, desktop, and mobile applications over the following weeks. Anthropic stated that Team and Free tier users will receive access at a later date, with no manual configuration or settings required from users. The update follows a recent upgrade to Cowork's memory layer, which helps the assistant retain user context across different conversation threads. With the unified system, users can initiate a document or slide deck on a desktop computer and inspect the progress or edit content through the mobile app.

Evolution of Claude productivity tools

The launch of Claude Docs represents the second time Anthropic has used the name, following a September 2025 rebranding of its developer documentation portal. The company previously maintained a dedicated Claude for PowerPoint integration, which received an update in March 2026, before building the new native Slides feature. Claude Design, introduced in April 2026 for prototyping websites, HTML layouts, and diagrams, now operates across standard chat windows. The expansion reflects broader industry moves where frontier AI laboratories integrate chat capabilities directly with document authoring and multi-step workflows.
