Bucharest court rejects AnimaWings insolvency request, creditor claims set for 11 November
The Bucharest Tribunal rejected the airline's insolvency request on 14 October 2026, and the ruling can still be appealed. Creditor claims, including those of Banca Transilvania and ROMATSA, will be heard separately on 11 November.
Court ruling
The Bucharest Tribunal rejected on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, the request by Anima Wings Aviation SA, known as AnimaWings, to open insolvency proceedings against the airline. The judges relied on Article 67 paragraph 2 of Law 85/2014. The decision is not final and can be appealed within seven days of its communication. The court disjoined the claims of several creditors and set them for a separate hearing on 11 November 2026 at 11:00. Four creditors, including Uplift Airport Services SRL, Aeroportul Internațional Avram Iancu Cluj RA, CN Aeroporturi București SA and an individual, were ordered to pay a 200 lei stamp fee or see their applications cancelled.
Filing and flight cuts
AnimaWings filed its request on 30 September 2026, saying its financial structure was temporarily blocked and that reorganisation protection would let it restructure its obligations and keep operating. Before filing, the company had announced the gradual withdrawal of six of its eight aircraft because of repeated technical problems, which Digi24 identifies as Airbus A220-300 jets. On 1 October it announced the suspension of all scheduled flights from 2 to 24 October, with a resumption from 25 October on a revised timetable. In its latest statements the company said it would not suspend flights, although its timetable could change. It is now operating two Airbus A320 aircraft and is trying to keep as many already planned routes as possible.

Finances and creditors
Financial data reported by Mediafax, drawn from Ministry of Finance records, show a loss of about 111 million lei in 2025, with expenses far above income. Total debts at the end of 2025 stood at about 157 million lei, and arrears to the tax authority ANAF reached about 11.5 million lei as of 30 June 2026. The company blames fuel price rises, falling purchasing power and political instability for raising its operating costs. Creditors listed on the court portal, as reported by Știrile ProTV, include Banca Transilvania, ROMATSA, several companies and individuals, and nine airport entities, among them the airports of Oradea, Suceava, Brașov-Ghimbav, Craiova, Sibiu, Arad, Timișoara and Cluj, plus CN Aeroporturi București.

Company response
Chief executive Marius Pandel said the request was a difficult decision that had become unavoidable. He linked the situation to the fleet's technical problems, which he said had produced a chain of effects across the business in a short time. He described the company's immediate priority as its passengers and keeping as many flights as possible.
It is a difficult but necessary decision, to protect what we have built in recent years and, above all, to be able to continue.
Pandel said AnimaWings would keep operating in an adapted format while it rebuilds on what he called a sustainable footing.
What comes next
The creditor claims will be examined on 11 November 2026 at 11:00, while the rejection of the company's own request can be challenged on appeal within seven days of communication. Creditors had been warned that unpaid stamp fees would lead to cancelled applications. The airline's flight timetable from 25 October will determine how much of its network returns to service.
