Andrzej Morozowski, TVN24 journalist and co-creator of 'Teraz my!', dies at 69 after cancer battle

A career in Polish media

Andrzej Morozowski was born on 13 June 1957 in Warsaw. He graduated from the Faculty of Theatre Studies at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw, but chose journalism. In the early 1990s he worked at Radio ZET and contributed to TVP's "Teleexpress". In late 2000, he became one of the first journalists to join the newly launched TVN24, a decision Adam Pieczyński, the station's first programme director, later called "a crazy decision" driven by curiosity and optimism.

'Teraz my!' and political journalism

Morozowski gained nationwide fame co-hosting "Teraz my!" with Tomasz Sekielski from 2005 to 2010. The programme's investigations exposed political scandals and earned multiple awards, including Wiktory, Telekamery, and the Journalist of the Year title. In a 2010 recording for the New Media Foundation, he explained his philosophy: "The role of a political journalist is to watch those in power, to immediately highlight things that seem stupid or wrong." He added, paraphrasing John Donne, "Never ask for whom politics is, because it is always a little bit for you."

Illness and return

Morozowski disappeared from TVN24's air in the second half of 2025. On 5 March 2026, he returned to his programme "Tak jest" and told viewers why.

“For more than half a year I was not on TVN24 because I was fighting cancer. Now my health allows me to host the programme part-time, but I will try to meet you as often as possible.”

His return was met with warmth from colleagues and viewers. However, his condition deteriorated. Tomasz Sianecki, speaking on TVN24 after the death, said Morozowski "dreamed of walking, of being able to move, because that's how severe this disease is."

Tributes from across the political spectrum

Poland's top politicians, many of whom had faced Morozowski's tough questions, paid tribute. Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote that Morozowski was "a journalist of real substance. Thinking, critical, and thoroughly decent." Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty called him "a symbol of the best Polish journalism." Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski said he was "always prepared, attentive, demanding, but above all respectful of the interviewee." Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek thanked him for "years of standing guard over transparency and truth."

Colleagues' memories

Ks. Kazimierz Sowa, a friend of over 20 years, recalled their last conversation and Morozowski's kindness: "He gave people the right to present their arguments. For a political journalist, that's a very important trait." Adam Pieczyński remembered his loud laugh echoing in the TVN24 corridors and his "incorrigible optimism." The station's "Szkło kontaktowe" on 4 August was broadcast from a different studio, with a portrait of Morozowski behind the hosts.

Beyond the newsroom

Morozowski also had small acting roles: a guard in the TV play "Kopciuszek" (2005), an appearance in the series "Niania" (2007), and an oppositionist in the film "Sztos 2" (2012). He was married to journalist Agata Nowakowska and had a son, Jan. He was of Jewish origin; his family chose to remain in Poland after the 1968 anti-Semitic campaign.
