Andrzej Morozowski, TVN24 journalist and host of 'Tak jest', dies at 69 after cancer battle

A career in Polish media

Andrzej Morozowski was born on 13 June 1957 in Warsaw. He graduated from the Faculty of Theatre Studies at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw before entering journalism. In 1989 he served as a Solidarity-side election observer and later worked for the Civic Parliamentary Club. His media career began at Radio Zet, where he was a political reporter from 1990 to 2000, and he also reported for TVP's "Teleexpress" from the Sejm. In 2001 he joined the newly launched TVN24, becoming one of its most recognisable faces.

The 'Teraz my!' breakthrough

From 2005 to 2010 Morozowski co-hosted the current-affairs programme "Teraz my!" with Tomasz Sekielski. The show gained national attention in 2006 when it aired hidden-camera recordings, made on 22 September, of talks between Renata Beger, then an MP for Samoobrona, and two ministers in the prime minister's chancellery, Adam Lipiński, who was also a deputy leader of PiS, and Wojciech Mojzesowicz. The tapes showed a government post being discussed in return for Beger leaving Samoobrona and backing the government. Prosecutors opened an investigation into a promised material benefit and discontinued it in March 2007 for lack of evidence that the offence had been committed. Morozowski later recalled the moment.

We thought we were playing a trick on the politicians. We wanted to show the ruthless political game and backroom bargaining.

The broadcast triggered one of the biggest political crises of that period and cemented the programme's place in Polish media history.

'Tak jest' and the cancer diagnosis

After "Teraz my!" ended, Morozowski launched "Tak jest" on TVN24 in 2010, a daily interview programme with politicians, experts and journalists. He hosted it until his health forced a break. In March 2026, after more than six months off air, he returned and told viewers he had been fighting cancer.

For over half a year I was not on TVN24 because I was battling cancer. Now my health allows me to host the programme on a limited basis, but I will try to meet with you as often as possible.

He did not specify the type of cancer, but said treatment had forced him to scale back his work.

Colleagues and politicians pay tribute

TVN24 confirmed his death on 4 August 2026. Anchor Tomasz Sianecki read the statement on air, followed by a minute of silence. Deputy editor-in-chief Brygida Grysiak said, "It is not true that there are no irreplaceable people. There are, and Andrzej is certainly one." Journalist Arleta Zalewska added that Morozowski was "a friend to our viewers."

Political figures across the spectrum expressed condolences. Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty called him "a symbol of the best Polish journalism." MEP Bartosz Arłukowicz wrote, "Heart breaks. Conversations. Discussions. Disputes. Jokes. Barbs. A lot of warmth in all of it." MEP Dariusz Joński recalled a journalist who "prepared thoroughly, asked concrete questions and never let go if the answer was evasive."

Awards and legacy

Morozowski received several of Poland's top journalism prizes, including the Grand Press, the Andrzej Woyciechowski Award and the Wiktor television award. He co-authored the book "Piękna dwudziestoletnia: 12 rozmów o wolnej Polsce" with Sekielski and made cameo appearances in the series "Niania" and the film "Sztos 2". In a 2021 text marking TVN24's 20th anniversary, he wrote that journalism was "a sense of mission, based on the conviction that one of the pillars of democracy is objective, fact-based information."
