Napoli appoints Massimiliano Allegri as head coach on three-year deal
The former Milan and Juventus manager signs until June 2029, succeeding Antonio Conte at the Serie A runners-up.
Napoli have confirmed Massimiliano Allegri as their new head coach, ending weeks of speculation. The 58-year-old Italian has signed a contract running to 30 June 2029, the club announced on Friday morning. He replaces Antonio Conte, who departed after two seasons in which he delivered a Scudetto and a Supercoppa Italiana.
The announcement
President Aurelio De Laurentiis broke the news with a social media post showing Allegri wearing a Napoli lapel pin. "Benvenuto Max," he wrote. The club's official statement followed shortly: "SSC Napoli wishes to welcome Massimiliano Allegri as the new head coach of our team. Allegri has signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2029."
Coach Allegri is proud to be one of us.
The deal had been held up by Allegri's contractual ties to AC Milan, where he was dismissed on 25 May after a fifth-place finish. A mutual termination was agreed only on Thursday, clearing the path for the Napoli move. Allegri will earn €4.5 million net per season, with bonuses for Champions League qualification and a Scudetto win.

A decorated CV

He has won six Italian league titles (five with Juventus, one with Milan), five Coppa Italia trophies and three Supercoppa Italiana crowns. His Juventus side reached two Champions League finals, in 2015 and 2017. He also led Cagliari to a ninth-place finish and won the Panchina d'Oro early in his career.

The squad he inherits
Napoli finished second last season and retain a strong core. Allegri is expected to deploy a 4-3-3 system, with Rasmus Højlund leading the attack flanked by Alisson and David Neres. In midfield, Stanislav Lobotka, Scott McTominay and Kevin De Bruyne provide experience, while Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Alessandro Buongiorno and Amir Rrahmani anchor the defence. Belgian internationals Romelu Lukaku and Cyril Ngonge are also in the squad.
Completing the Serie A picture
Allegri becomes the 13th coach of the De Laurentiis era, a list that includes Rafael Benítez, Maurizio Sarri, Carlo Ancelotti and Luciano Spalletti. His appointment fills the last vacant bench in Serie A for the 2026/27 season. The league now has all 20 head coaches confirmed, with Ruben Amorim taking over at Milan and Allegri tasked with keeping Napoli in the title fight while improving their European record.
