PSV lead, then play a man down
Sven Mijnans gave PSV the lead at ADO Den Haag in the 21st minute, finishing a controlled shot after a pass from Guus Til. PSV took the initiative from the start and created a few threatening moments in the opening ten minutes, while ADO did not manage a single carefully built attack in the first quarter and quickly lost possession. ADO responded after the goal, with a header from Pascal Mulder testing PSV goalkeeper Matej Kovar and a Jan Zamburek effort flying narrowly over the goal. Til had to leave the pitch with a head problem after landing heavily in an aerial duel with ADO's Juho Kilo.
Shortly before half-time referee Martin van den Kerkhof showed Mijnans a second yellow card, leaving PSV to play the rest of the match with ten men. The first booking came for a minor holding offence, and the second followed a tackle on Pascal Mulder that Telegraaf described as reckless. Mijnans is also suspended for PSV's next top match against Feyenoord, according to Telegraaf.
Kilo levels, then ADO push for the winner
At half-time Peter Bosz replaced Dennis Man with defender Ryan Flamingo to strengthen the back line, while ADO coach Robin Peter sent three fresh players onto the pitch. Ten minutes after the restart Juho Kilo equalised from distance, and his shot was redirected by PSV captain Mauro Junior. Bosz had already brought 17-year-old Danish striker Mikkel Bro on for the injured Til, giving PSV a natural striker again. ADO pressed hard for a second goal and left space for PSV to counter, and substitute Amir Bouhamdi came close when he shot over the crossbar.
Stoppage-time winner for ADO
ADO's late push, which NOS calls the 'Haags kwartiertje', came against a PSV side that held out for long spells with ten men. The decisive moment came in the third minute of three added minutes, when Matej Sin scored from close range with Kovar involved in the goal. NOS describes it as ADO's first win of the season and its first Eredivisie win since 9 May 2021, when it beat PEC Zwolle. The result gave the hosts the points they had been chasing all season.
Table impact and what follows
PSV are on nineteen points after nine matches, and according to NOS this is the third time this season they have dropped points late. Feyenoord play Telstar on the evening of 17 October, and a win would take their lead over PSV to four points according to NOS, or five according to Telegraaf. PSV host leaders Feyenoord in late October, and Mijnans is suspended for that match. NOS notes Mauro Junior was taken off late in the game, possibly to be spared for the coming duels with FC Porto and Feyenoord. Telegraaf reports that the defeat came between two demanding away matches in the Champions League.
