Adelante Andalucía rejects left coalition to run independently in 29 November election
The regionalist party will contest all eight Andalusian provinces alone on 29 November, prompting criticism from former minister Alberto Garzón over left-wing vote splitting.
Independent candidacy in all eight provinces
On 5 October, Andalusian left-regionalist party Adelante Andalucía announced it will contest the 29 November general election independently across all eight provinces in the region. Party spokesperson José Ignacio García confirmed the decision at the party's Seville headquarters, rejecting participation in any broad left coalition such as Frente Amplio. The national vote follows the 17 May regional election, where Adelante increased its representation in the regional parliament from two to eight seats with 10% of the vote. Andalusia represents Spain's largest regional electorate, allocating 61 seats in the Congress of Deputies. García argued that a distinct regionalist option offers the most effective route to mobilize progressive voters and counter right-wing blocs.
Adelante Andalucía is going to be Adelante Andalucía in the next general elections, just as we were in the Andalusian elections.
Clash with Alberto Garzón over vote division
The announcement prompted criticism on social media from former Consumer Affairs Minister and former Izquierda Unida leader Alberto Garzón. Garzón argued that Adelante was overestimating its regional momentum, pointing to historical patterns of dual voting where voters choose regional parties locally but consolidate around national parties during general elections. He cited Cádiz, where Adelante won 8% across the province and 16.6% in the city in the 2022 regional election, before falling to 1.44% in the province and 2.14% in the city during the 2023 general election. Garzón warned that the Spanish electoral system penalizes divided left-wing ballots in multi-member districts, potentially aiding right-wing coalitions. Adelante co-spokesperson Teresa Rodríguez dismissed Garzón's calculations, telling him that national leaders should focus on Madrid rather than dictating Andalusian politics.
Fix your issues in Madrid and leave us in peace once and for all.

Candidate selection and regional strategy
Adelante has initiated an internal process to select its parliamentary candidates, though its leadership will not appear on the ballot. García ruled himself out, stating his commitment remains in the regional parliament to oppose the regional administration of President Juanma Moreno. The party also confirmed that co-spokesperson Teresa Rodríguez will not run due to health reasons, and former Cádiz mayor José María González was similarly excluded. Because Adelante did not contest previous national ballots as an independent party under its current registration, party officials noted that volunteers must collect citizen signatures across Andalusia to register lists. Organization secretary Rocío Díaz stated that the party is simultaneously preparing for local elections, with a municipalist conference scheduled for 10 October.
Electoral stakes in Andalusia
The November vote follows six months after the 17 May regional contest, which established a coalition government between the conservative People's Party and Vox in Andalusia. Speaking at a forum in Málaga on 5 October, regional president Juanma Moreno warned his party against complacency despite favorable polling. Moreno observed that general election balloting is historically more ideological and polarized around national party blocs than regional contests. Andalusian results remain central to any majority in the 350-seat Congress, with the 61 deputies from Andalusia representing a decisive share. Adelante aims to secure representation by campaigning on housing costs, precarious labor, and regional autonomy, while rival left forces negotiate their own national alignments.
