The promotional sketch
Cara al Show, the satirical programme Marc Giró presents on La Sexta, released a promotional clip for its interview with Transport Minister Óscar Puente, scheduled for Wednesday, 21 October. In the roughly one-minute scene, Puente steps into the programme's fictional elevator, which then breaks down. He picks up his phone to send a tweet and jokes that they did not already have enough trouble with Renfe. After a voiceover blames a voltage drop and the lift restarts, everyone in the cabin, the minister included, starts to dance. Puente later shared the clip on his own X account with the line 'If I survive this...'.
Victims' association condemns the sketch
The Association of Victims of the Adamuz Derailment (AVDA) condemned the clip and called it a 'mockery' in a video sent to the media. Its president, Mario Samper, said the group felt grief, consternation and indignation over what he described as a television sketch that laughs at Renfe's situation. He argued the joke was in very poor taste, given that 46 people died in the derailment at Adamuz in Córdoba province on 18 January 2025 and that many families and injured people still live with its consequences.
“He shows his absolute insensitivity once again and his absolute incapacity to hold a ministry.”
Samper also found it incredible that Puente still held the ministerial post while publicly saying it was possible he could succeed the prime minister. The association's message closed with a condemnation of such remarks.
“Everything seems incredible to us, and we absolutely condemn this type of remark.”
Political and online reaction
Vox leader Santiago Abascal also criticised the clip in a post on X, according to ABC, which reports that he accused Puente of laughing at the state of the tracks. Online, reactions split. Many users said the reference to Renfe was inappropriate so soon after the crash, while others argued it was simply a television sketch with no direct link to the accident. The programme's own social media account was flooded with insults and rejection aimed at both Puente and the show's host. La Razón reports that the clip gathered thousands of views within hours of its release.
Broadcast and background
The interview is due to air on La Sexta at 23:00 on Wednesday, 21 October, according to El Mundo. The guests scheduled for that edition include singer Fito Páez and presenter María Patiño. eldiario.es reports that Atresmedia's promotional push for the appearance has been running since Friday, 16 October, a few weeks before the 29N elections. The derailment on 18 January 2025 remains the backdrop to the row, and accounts of the crash note that many survivors still carry its after-effects.
