A7 Moldova Motorway reaches over 95% completion on Adjud-Răcăciuni lot, 397 km continuous link targeted by end of 2026
The A7 Moldova Motorway in Romania is advancing rapidly with 1,900 workers and 400 machines active on the 47 km stretch between Adjud and Bacău. CNAIR director Cristian Pistol reports physical completion exceeding 95% on one lot, pushing toward a 397 km continuous route from Bucharest to Pașcani by the end of this year.
Construction status on key lots
Work on the Moldova Motorway (A7) has entered the final stages. On Lot 2, which runs from Domnești Târg to Răcăciuni (38.78 km), the physical progress has passed 95%. Lot 3, covering Răcăciuni to Bacău (21.52 km), stands at approximately 80%. Both lots are part of the A7 Focșani-Bacău segment. Along the Adjud-Răcăciuni stretch, final-drainage channels, parking areas, and protective fencing are being completed, readying the road for opening.

Mobilisation and workforce
The Romanian contractor UMB Spedition, owned by businessman Dorin Umbrărescu, has deployed a concentrated workforce. Across the full 47 km worksite between Adjud and Bacău, 1,900 workers and 400 machines are active. This level of resource deployment reflects the priority given to closing the connectivity gap in the Moldova region before the year ends.
The Cleja railway overpass
One of the most complex structures on the route is the railway overpass at Cleja, in Bacău county. Located at kilometre 83+548, it has a total length of 1,215 metres. Current operations include beam mounting, gutter concreting, and pouring the superstructure slab across multiple spans. The overpass is a critical element for the continuity of the motorway.
Moldova Motorway (A7): good progress on the railway overpass at Cleja, Bacău county (km 83+548), 1,215 m long! At this stage beams are being mounted, gutters are being concreted, and the superstructure slab is being poured on several openings.
Financing and strategic goal
The two lots have a combined value of 4.18 billion lei (excluding VAT), with funding secured through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Cristian Pistol has stated that his objective is to open a continuous 397 km motorway link stretching from Bucharest to Pașcani within 2026. The route would comprise 62 km of the A3 (Bucharest-Ploiești), 319 km of the A7 (Ploiești-Pașcani), and the 16 km Bacău Bypass.
Practically, my goal is that this year traffic will be possible on 397 km of motorway from Bucharest to Pașcani: A3 (Bucharest-Ploiești) – 62 km, A7 (Ploiești-Pașcani) – 319 km, and the Bacău Bypass – 16 km.
Opening outlook
The association “Moldova vrea autostradă” indicated in July that Lot 2 (Adjudu Vechi – Răcăciuni) could open together with Lot 3 (Răcăciuni – Bacău), possibly as early as August. If the schedule holds, the first vehicles would use the new link well before the end-of-year target, connecting two counties that have long waited for modern highway access.
