Toulouse-Castres A69 motorway opening pushed back to early November
The A69 motorway linking Toulouse and Castres, initially due to open on 15 October, will now open in the first week of November, according to operator Atosca.
Atosca told ICI Occitanie on Friday that the opening, initially planned for 15 October, has been moved to the first week of November. The company said the works will be completed next week, but safety checks are under way and will continue for the following fifteen days.
Opponents of the project set up a camp on Thursday in the Tarn, about one kilometre as the crow flies from the route, and are planning three days of mobilisation from Friday to Sunday. The call is backed by several groups, including Extinction Rebellion, ZAD A69 and Les soulèvements de la Terre. The prefecture of the Occitanie region published orders on Wednesday banning any protest action until 12 October. The Conseil d'Etat definitively validated the motorway at the end of June, after a lengthy legal dispute.
