Three-vehicle crash on Poland's A2 motorway near Nowy Tomyśl blocks both directions, one injured
A collision involving a truck, a car, and a van on the A2 motorway in western Poland has shut down traffic in both directions, with police estimating disruptions could last until 7 p.m. local time.
What happened
A serious traffic incident occurred on Saturday afternoon on the A2 motorway near the village of Toczeń in the Nowy Tomyśl district of Greater Poland Voivodeship. According to the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), a truck collided with a passenger car on the roadway heading towards Świecko just before 5 p.m. The impact caused the truck to break through the central reservation barriers and enter the opposite carriageway heading towards Warsaw, where it then collided with a van.
The Nowy Tomyśl District Police Headquarters confirmed that three vehicles were involved: a tractor unit with a semi-trailer, a passenger car, and a van-type vehicle. The truck came to rest blocking lanes across the motorway, while the van ended up on its side on the carriageway.
Casualties and response
Emergency services, including firefighters from Greater Poland, attended the scene. A total of seven people were travelling in the vehicles involved. The GDDKiA reported that one person was injured in the collision. The police indicated that the incident may be classified as a traffic collision rather than a more serious accident. The injured individuals were undergoing medical assessment, and it was not immediately clear whether anyone would require hospitalisation.
Traffic disruption
Both carriageways of the A2 motorway are completely blocked. Police have implemented diversions: vehicles heading towards Świecko are being redirected onto national road 92 at the Nowy Tomyśl junction, while those travelling from the direction of the border are being diverted onto the same DK92 route at the Trzciel junction. Officers estimate that the traffic disruption could last until 7 p.m.
