A 43-year-old truck driver and a Renault driver collided at kilometre 499 of the A2 near Cisie on Friday morning. The Renault driver was resuscitated but died, and traffic in both directions remained blocked.
The collision
On Friday, 9 October, shortly before noon, a DAF truck and a Renault passenger car collided on the A2 motorway at kilometre 499, near Cisie in the Mazowieckie region. Warszawa Nasze Miasto placed the crash in the village's gmina of Halinów in Miński county. The Renault driver was resuscitated at the scene, but a doctor pronounced death, according to the State Fire Service spokesman in Mińsk Mazowiecki, senior fire brigade lieutenant Kamil Płochocki. Earlier reporting from TVN24 described only one injured person and did not mention a death.
The driver and the investigation
Police said the truck driver is 43 years old, is sober and holds valid driving entitlements, according to junior assistant inspector Paula Antolak of the Mińsk Mazowiecki County Police. Super Express reported that the truck driver is a citizen of Belarus. Police are continuing procedural steps with him. Super Express also reported that it is not yet known how the collision happened.
Traffic and response
The A2 was blocked in both directions after the crash. Police planned to reopen traffic first toward Mińsk Mazowiecki, while the carriageway toward Warsaw was expected to stay closed for some time. Antolak told Super Express that police had set up detours via the Marynarska and Jakubów junctions.
I am unable to say exactly when the A2 will be passable again. We will be working on site for at least several hours. Police have already set up detours via the Marynarska and Jakubów junctions. Please use them.
Firefighters from the Mińsk Mazowiecki fire unit and the volunteer fire brigades in Cisie and Dębe Wielkie secured the damaged vehicles. Ambulance crews and a Polish Air Ambulance helicopter were also deployed to the scene. Antolak said the removal of the wreckage would take time.
