Greek tax deadline looms: 3% discount expires Monday as 2 million households yet to file
Greek taxpayers face a fast-approaching deadline Monday to file their income tax return and secure a 3% discount, with about 2 million households yet to submit the E1 form.
Deadline for the 3% discount
Greek taxpayers have until Monday 15 June to submit their E1 income tax return and lock in a 3% discount on any additional tax due, provided they pay the full amount by 31 July. The incentive drops to 2% for returns filed from 16 June through the general filing deadline of 15 July 2026. Those who filed by 15 May already secured the maximum 4% discount. The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) said 4.7 million E1 declarations had been submitted as of 10 June, leaving roughly 2 million households to file within the final month.

What the numbers show
Among already cleared returns, 32.3% resulted in additional tax (about 1.5 million households), with an average extra charge of €1,785. That translates to an average discount of €53 for filers meeting the 15 June deadline, €35 for those filing later in the 2% window, and €70 for the earliest filers. Meanwhile, 31.7% of assessments are refunds, averaging around €290, and 36% are zero-balance. The AADE stresses that refund recipients must ensure their IBAN is correctly registered in the myAADE platform.

Payment options and penalties
Tax can be paid either in a lump sum by 31 July or in up to eight monthly instalments (July 2026–February 2027). Taxpayers also have the option of up to 12 interest-free instalments via credit card or a standing arrangement of up to 24 interest-bearing monthly instalments. Missing a single instalment triggers a 15% surcharge; missing two cancels the arrangement and makes the remaining balance due immediately.
Amended returns for retroactive pay
The AADE has opened the myAADE platform for amended returns covering retroactive wage and pension payments received in 2025 but relating to the 2024 tax year. These must be filed by 31 December 2026, and any resulting tax is payable by 31 January 2027 or can be included in the 24-instalment interest-bearing arrangement.
