Glasgow anti-immigration protest clashes with counter-demonstrators lead to 15 arrests

Violent disorder breaks out

On Saturday 25 July 2026, anti-immigration protesters summoned by the identitarian group Unite the Clans gathered at Glasgow Green park. An antiracist counter-demonstration formed in parallel. By mid-day, the two groups clashed, with videos showing pushing and scuffles as some participants wore masks. Police Scotland, including mounted officers, intervened to separate them, later describing the situation as "significant disorder".

Police operation and arrests

A police spokeswoman said the force had launched a "significant operation", responding to unrest across multiple areas of the city centre. Officers made a series of arrests. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Police Scotland confirmed:

We are responding to disorder in several areas of Glasgow city centre and a number of arrests have already been made. Please avoid the area.

The force then announced that 15 individuals had been taken into custody on charges including assault, possession of offensive weapons, and other public order breaches. The public was urged to stay away from the affected area.

Glasgow has become a recurrent flashpoint for anti-immigration protests, often initiated by identitarian groups, with Unite the Clans calling the Saturday rally. Similar gatherings in recent months have frequently led to confrontations and police deployments.
