These Terms set out how programs, integrations and AI assistants may use Pollar’s public API and the Pollar News MCP server. Reading Pollar on the website and in the apps is governed by the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. If the language versions differ, the Polish version prevails.
1. Scope
These Terms cover the public API endpoints at https://pollar.news/api/v1 (the “API”) and the Model Context Protocol server at https://mcp.pollar.news/mcp (the “MCP”). Both are provided by Pollar P.S.A., Kraków (registration details in section 1 of the Terms of Use). “You” means the person or company that connects to the API or the MCP directly or through its own program, app or AI assistant (an “Integration”). By connecting to the API or the MCP you accept these Terms; if you act for a company, you accept them on its behalf. If you only add the MCP server to your AI assistant to read the news for yourself, sections 3–5 and 8 apply to you; the assistant’s provider is responsible for the rest.
2. What we provide
Pollar’s published material: events, the brief, threads, explainers, live coverage, transcripts of Pollar Sounds and films, and profiles of people, organisations and places, together with the list of sources, corrections, image credits and the provenance field. Access is read-only, without sign-in and without any data about our readers. The API has no public documentation and no stability guarantee; the MCP server describes its own tools. We may change the scope, format and behaviour of both.
3. Licence
For as long as you comply with these Terms, we grant you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to: retrieve Pollar material through the API and the MCP; show it, in full or in part, to people who ask for it in your Integration, including in a commercial service such as an AI assistant; and summarise and quote it. Always subject to sections 4–8. The licence covers only what Pollar holds the rights to. Images, source titles and quotes owned by others are covered by sections 6 and 7. This access is an exception to the ban on bulk download in the Terms of Use.
4. Attribution
Credit every piece of Pollar material you show or quote with the name “Pollar” and a link to that piece on pollar.news (the url field). Do not present it as your own or as another outlet’s work, do not change its meaning and do not remove correction notes. The list of sources is part of the material: if you show the full text, show the sources or a link to them as well.
5. AI label
Pollar’s texts, except Pollar Originals, are generated by artificial intelligence. Every object with such a text has a provenance field with a label (provenance.label, e.g. “AI-generated”) and the address of our AI policy. When you show or publish such a text, show that label or an equivalent notice in the reader’s language, clearly and distinguishably, at the latest when the reader first sees the text. Do not remove it, hide it or attribute the text to a person. For a translated Pollar Originals text with provenance.machineTranslated, say that it was translated by AI. If you publish our texts yourself to inform the public on matters of public interest, the disclosure duty in Article 50(4) of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (the AI Act) may apply to you too.
6. Images
The photographs on Pollar are not ours. They come from Wikimedia Commons, from the official photo services of public institutions and from the Pexels photo library, under Creative Commons licences (CC BY, CC BY‑SA, CC0), in the public domain or under the Pexels licence. The exception are the AI-generated illustrations from Pollar’s own library (credit.kind: ai): they show no real person, place or event and have no author or licence to credit. If you show one, show the caption “AI-generated illustration” with it and do not strip the metadata that marks the file as AI-generated. Every image has a credit (imageCredit or credit): the author, the licence with a link, a link to the source page and whether it was cropped. We do not license the images: every recipient receives the licence directly from the rights holder (CC 4.0 licences, section 2(a)(5)). If you show an image, show its full credit and the modification note (“cropped”) with it, do not strip metadata (EXIF, IPTC, XMP) from the file, and keep the “File photo” or “Illustrative photo” label where there is one. You may share an adaptation of a CC BY‑SA image only under the same licence. Using a person’s likeness beyond news reporting may require their consent: do not use the images in advertising, in a way that suggests endorsement (this applies in particular to US government photos) or in a way that shows a person in a bad light. When we remove an image, for example at the request of its author or of a person shown in it, remove it on your side too (section 10).
7. Publishers’ content
The titles of source articles, outlet names, links and short quotes from speakers belong to their publishers and authors. We pass them on to show what the Pollar material is based on. You may show them only together with that material and for the same purpose. Do not collect them separately and do not build lists or datasets from them. Many publishers have reserved text and data mining (Article 4 of Directive (EU) 2019/790, Article 26³ of the Polish Copyright Act); those reservations bind you too.
8. No model training
You may not use material retrieved through the API or the MCP to train or fine-tune AI models or to build datasets for those purposes, unless we agree in writing. We cannot agree to such use of images, source titles or quotes, because they are not ours. Using the material to answer a user’s question (retrieval, quoting, summarising in a conversation) is not training.
9. What is not allowed
You may not: resell the material or access to the API or the MCP; build from Pollar material a service, archive, feed or database that republishes it or replaces Pollar; download the whole archive or large parts of it; get around the limits, for example by using many IP addresses; impersonate Pollar or suggest that Pollar endorses your Integration; or use the material in breach of the law. During the electoral silence in Poland we hold back some material, and publishing poll results is prohibited then (Article 115 of the Polish Electoral Code): do not publish them during that time from copies retrieved earlier either.
10. Freshness, corrections and removals
Material changes: we correct errors, update events and sometimes remove images or whole pieces, for example at the request of the person concerned. Do not keep copies longer than you need to answer a user. If you keep them longer, refresh them at least once every 24 hours and delete whatever we have removed. When you show an older copy, give the date you retrieved it.
11. Personal data
The material contains personal data of the people we report on: names, roles, statements and likenesses, mostly of public figures. When you retrieve it, you become a controller of that data and are responsible for processing it lawfully, including honouring removals under section 10. Do not combine this data into profiles of people. How we process data when you connect to the MCP server is described in the MCP server privacy policy.
12. Rate limits
We limit the number of requests. The MCP server currently accepts up to 60 requests per minute from one IP address, and the API applies its own limits. Above them we answer with status 429. Automated Integrations should identify themselves in the User-Agent header with a name and a contact address. If you plan more traffic, write to us first.
13. No warranty, liability
We provide the API and the MCP free of charge, “as is” and “as available”, with no warranty of continuity, accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose. AI-generated texts can contain errors (section 8 of the Terms of Use). To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss arising from use of the API or the MCP or from reliance on the material. You are responsible for your Integration, including showing labels and credits; if you act as a business, you will hold us harmless from third-party claims arising from your breach of these Terms. We do not exclude liability that the law does not allow us to exclude, or any consumer rights.
14. Suspension, termination and changes
You may stop using the API or the MCP at any time. We may limit, suspend or block an Integration that breaks these Terms, overloads the services or puts readers at risk, and we may switch off the API or the MCP altogether. We announce a planned shutdown, and any change to these Terms that restricts your rights, on this page at least 30 days in advance, unless the law or security requires a faster change. Updated Terms apply from the date shown at the top of this page. When you stop using the services, delete your copies of the material, except what you have already quoted with attribution.
15. Governing law and contact
These Terms are governed by Polish law. A consumer keeps the protection of the mandatory law of their country of residence and may bring proceedings in the courts there. Disputes with businesses are decided by the court competent for Pollar’s registered office. Questions, reports of breaches and requests for wider use: contact@pollar.news, subject “API”.
