A fast-moving forest fire in France's Gironde department has burned 4,800 hectares of pine forest near the Arcachon basin, prompting the evacuation of around 20,000 residents and tourists. Firefighters are defending homes in Lège-Cap-Ferret as temperatures top 30°C and winds fan the flames.
