    Forest fire erupts in Chiemgau Alps near Unterwössen, hundreds of firefighters deployed as blaze spreads towards valley

    A mountain forest fire broke out on Wednesday evening on the Hochwand near the Lackenbergwand in Upper Bavaria, burning in steep, inaccessible terrain at around 1,000 metres altitude. The operation echoes the Saurüsselkopf blaze that lasted a month in May.
