Wildfire rages in low vegetation at Pelasgia beach, Fthiotida, as strong winds fuel flames
A wildfire broke out Saturday morning in low vegetation near Pelasgia beach in Stylida, Fthiotida, with strong winds challenging the response of 32 firefighters and three aircraft.
Fire starts in agricultural area
A fire ignited on the morning of Saturday, 27 June 2026, in low vegetation within agricultural lands at the Pelasgia beach area of Stylida, Fthiotida. The flames spread quickly through dry brush, pushed by very strong winds blowing across the region. Authorities have confirmed that the fire remains distant from homes and infrastructure, with no immediate threat to residential areas.
Firefighting resources mobilised
The Hellenic Fire Service deployed 32 firefighters to the scene, including one pedestrian brigade of the 4th EMAK (Special Disaster Response Unit). They are supported by 11 fire engines, two water-dropping aircraft, and one helicopter. Municipal water tankers are also assisting in containment efforts. The number of ground personnel was reported as 30 by one source, while two others cited 32.
Wind hampers efforts
Gusty winds in the area are complicating firefighting work, fuelling the fire’s growth. The blaze is burning through low vegetation, and while it has not yet threatened buildings, the weather conditions have made it harder to bring under control. No injuries or evacuations have been reported.
Arson investigation launched
The Arson Investigation Unit of Fthiotida is en route to the site to examine the cause of the fire. Authorities have not yet determined whether the blaze was started accidentally or deliberately.
