WhatsApp temporarily bans Jair Bolsonaro's son ahead of Brazil runoff
WhatsApp temporarily banned the account of Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of Brazilian presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro, following reports of illegal mass text messaging ahead of the Oct. 28 runoff.
Flávio Bolsonaro, the son of far-right presidential frontrunner Jair Bolsonaro, demanded an explanation after his account was suspended on WhatsApp. Representatives of WhatsApp confirmed to The Guardian that several accounts had been banned to fight the distribution of fake news ahead of Brazil's Oct. 28 presidential runoff.
Reporting from newspaper Folha de São Paulo stated that supporters of Jair Bolsonaro paid to illegally distribute mass WhatsApp text messages. After describing the action by WhatsApp as persecution, Flávio Bolsonaro stated that his account had been reactivated.
